Hot Springs in Steamboat Springs

Steamboat Springs, Colorado, lives up to its name with a rich history rooted in its numerous hot and mineral springs. These natural features have been a source of healing and recreation for centuries, first for the Ute Indians and later for early settlers and visitors.

Whether you're seeking a rustic, natural hot spring experience or a family-friendly recreational facility with mineral-rich pools, Steamboat Springs offers a variety of options to relax and rejuvenate in its unique geothermal waters.

Strawberry Park Hot Springs

  • Features: Natural setting with unique stone masonry, changing areas (including a tipi and heated cabin), picnic areas, massages, and watsu therapy (in private pools).
  • Overnight: Offers rustic camping experiences in the summer with campsites, sheep wagons, and cabins, and heated cabins in winter.

Other Mineral Springs

Other Mineral Springs

Beyond the two main hot springs, Steamboat Springs is home to over 150 mineral springs, many of which are cooler in temperature (around 65 degrees Fahrenheit) and not open for public soaking. These springs are a significant part of the city's geologic and cultural history, giving Steamboat its unique name due to the "chugging" sounds they once made (before railroad construction silenced the original "Steamboat Spring").

  • Mineral Springs Walking Tour: The city offers a self-guided walking tour to explore some of these lesser-known mineral springs. While not for soaking, it's a great way to learn about the area's natural heritage and the unique mineral content of each spring.
  • Preservation Efforts: There's a concerted effort in Steamboat Springs to protect and preserve these valuable geologic features, as many have been lost or threatened by development over time.
